There are several different reasons people choose to cycle as a mode of transportation. Many of these reasons are not at all related with how you like to travel. Some people choose to cycle because they need the exercise. Others go cycling because they compete in it as a sport. Still others ride bicycles as a hobby because they enjoy the feeling of riding a bicycle around their neighborhood. Regardless of your reason for needing to find a bicycle, you need to take some things into consideration when the time comes to choose the perfect bicycle for you. Try these tips out to see if they can be of help.
The first thing to ensure is you get a bike that is the right size. Begin by measuring your inseam. Simply measure the distance from your groin to the bottom of your foot, down the inside of your leg. The goal is to be able to sit on the seat of the bike and still rest your feet flat on the ground. If you can do this you need not worry about stopping in an emergency if your brakes malfunction.
If you want to ride a road bike, you will need to subtract about nine inches from your inseam measurement. This is because of the size of the tires on your road bike. These tires will be thinner and designed for efficiency on concrete roads or pavements. With a mountain bike you will need to take away around one foot from the inseam. The tires on a mountain bike are not the same as a road bike. Mountain bike tires are thicker than road bike tires, designed for rocky terrain. You can use mountain bikes for city cycling, but the opposite is not true and they are nowhere near as good on city streets as road bikes.
The angle of your seat (also called the saddle) redirected here is also important. There are several angles you can tilt your seat at. Some cyclists are more comfortable in a slightly forward position, and therefore, find a completely flat seat inappropriate for them. Continue to adjust your seat until it feels the best for you. You can always leave the seat in the position it is in, but you will most likely find it to be very uncomfortable to ride.
There are many different things you should consider when the time comes to buy the perfect bicycle for yourself. It can be a bit tedious and frustrating to try and figure out what all you need when you are buying a bicycle. Take your time and do some research and you’ll find the right bike before you know it.
